NY Post: DOT Commissioner Is a Sadistic Psycho

_NY Post: DOT Commissioner Is a Sadistic Psycho

The NY Post is in the midst of a full-on assault against NYC DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, because the right-wing rag loves the internal combustion engine, doesn't believe in climate change, and hates change. The tabloid has made no secret of its contempt for bike lanes and pedestrian plazas; therefore the DOT's proposal to bring all three elements to 34th Street has the paper apoplectic. Following up on her colleague Steve Cuozzo's rant last week, Post columnist Andrea Peyser turns up the rhetoric to 11 today: [MORE]

Dems Can't Block Tea Party From Staten Island St. Patty's Parade

Though it doesn't start until Sunday, the Staten Island St. Patrick's Day parade (or, as we like to call it, Staten Paten) has already had its first fight. Well, already come this close to its first fight thanks to a dispute over the Tea Party, it seems.... [ MORE ]

To Woo NYC, Walmart Suddenly BFF With Unions (On Paper)

Walmart has a bit of a reputation as an anti-union exploiter of underpaid workers, which is part of the reason why many liberal New Yorkers are opposed to the corporation's campaign to open their first NYC location, in East New York. But if you think Walmart ain't pals with the working associate man, you've got it all wrong, insists a new mailer going out to local residents. The mailer, written from the point of view of an unemployed construction worker, argues that the "special interests" would keep "him" out of a union job.... [ MORE ]

John Galliano Fired From Dior After Allegations Of Anti-Semitism

Last week, fashion house Christian Dior suspended its iconoclastic designer, John Galliano, after he was accused of making anti-Semitic statements at a Paris cafe. Today, after an undated video of Galliano saying he loved Hitler and other allegations of anti-Semitism piled up, Dior announced that Galliano was fired. CEO Sidney Toledano condemned the bad boy designer "in the strongest terms" and said Galliano's behavior was "in total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the Christian Dior house." ... New Yorkers Suck At Flirting

This photo captioned "men and women flirting with each other outside Broadway dance hall near Times Square" would have one believe that New York was filled with flirts... but perhaps times have changed since 1944. According to a new study, the "most flirtatious city" in the world is Athens, Greece. Followed by Moscow (2nd), Rome (8th), Madrid (31st), Paris (38th), London (57th), Berlin (79th), and finally New York at #89. According to Reuters, Lonely Planet's Athens expert agrees with the top result, calling the Greek capital "a seductive city, with a hedonistic lifestyle."... [ MORE ]

Taste-Testing Arby's New Angus Bacon Sandwich: The Chain's Hail Mary

Arby's would like you to salivate over the question "what happens when the roast beef experts serve Angus?" But given that last month, the Wendy's/Arby's Group Inc. announced that it would attempt to jettison Arby's due to lackluster sales, a more pertinent question might be "can a new sandwich save a franchise?" Arby's is betting the whole pot of Horsey sauce that it can. KFC's Double Down meltdown be damned.... [ MORE ]
